Preparing for diagnostic-menu (= monitor-mode)

aeg9082.gif aeg9070.gif
as following for these phones:
cellular flip-phone (GSM-900): Teleport TP 9040, TP 9050,
TP 9070 DTFX, TP 9080 / 9082
(GSM-1800): TP 1850, E-Plus AEG-compact, TP 1870 DTFX
TP 1880 /1882
and models looking identically than these (e.g. NorTel,
Matra or Sanyo, consider the referring pictures at the side !):

at memoryplace 99 (SIM-memory, phone memory does not exist)
fill in name FELDTEST. Number not necessary.
After that call this place one time (e.g. about search)
Now a new menu without a number exists over the first menu-point.
This ist the "diagnostic"-menu (= monitor-mode).

"up" = push one time the "up/down"-button at the left side of the phone up !

Diagnostic-function turning on:

Menu, up, ok, ok, ok, 1 (or ok)

then e.g.
C, 2 push for normal (= Idle) diag-mode (Layer1Info).

Diagnostic-function turning off:

Menu, up, ok, ok, ok, 2

IDLE - Display (three lines):

Example || meaning:

Row 1: I 19 : 31 R 42 || I BCCH : NCC & BCC R RxLev
Row 2: L 15 S 15 F 1257 || L LinkCount S S/N Ratio F AFC-value
Row 3: N 100 : 34 R 22 || N BCCH : NCC & BCC R RxLev

I =
Idle mode

BCCH xxx =
Broadcast control channel serving cell
(xxx from 001 to 124) (in example 19).

NCC x =
National color code
(in Germany 3 for D1 or 7 for D2) (in example 3).
BCC x =
Base station color code
(in Germany x from 0 to 7) (in example 1).
!!!! NCC and BCC together are the BSIC = Base station identity code !!!!

RxLev xx =
absolut Receive level
from 0 (= - 110 dBm) to 87 (= - 23 dBm) (xx in example 42 = - 68 dBm).

L xx =
Link count
a kind of RadioLinkTimeout counter,
start counter is preset in the parameters of the base station;
if one block can not be decoded, one will be subtracted;
if the next block can be decoded, two will be added up to a maximum
level defined by the base station.
If the counter is zero, the connection will be interrupted
(in idle-mode with active SIM in the home-net 15).
(One block are four frames).

S xx =
Signal to Noise Ratio in dB
(with good receive-level in home-net 15).

F xxxx =
AFC (Automatic Frequency Control) value
digital control value for the frequency
(only 9070 DTFX since firmware-version 7207-1/DTFX).
The digital AFC-value shown on the display and the real
frequency-correction in Hz are attached through a nonlinear
signature-line. An example:
An increase about 1 in AFC-value means a difference
about 20 - 40 Hz (900 MHz), on DCS (1800 MHZ) it's twice the value.

N =
Neighbour channels
scanning up to six neighbour channels
(example s.a.).

DEDICATED - Display (three lines):

Example || meaning:

Row 1: D 19 : 5 R 41 Q 0 || D ARFCN : TS R RxLev Q Quality
Row 2: L 24 T 2 X 3 S 15 || L LinkCount T Tim.Adv. X act.TxPwr S S/N Ratio
Row 3: N 100 : 34 R 22 || N BCCH : NCC & BCC R RxLev
or: B 19 : 31 || B BCCH : NCC & BCC

D =
Dedicated mode

ARFCN xxx =
Absolute radio frequency channel number =
channel where your call works (xxx from 001 to 124) (in example channel 19).
(combination of TCH + SACCH or SDCCH + SACCH)
If there is an "H" displayed, frequency-hopping is used.

TS x =
Time slot = time slot in which the phone is sending (x from 0 to 7) (in example 5).

RxLev xx =
absolut Receive level
from 0 (= - 110 dBm) to 87 (= - 23 dBm) (xx in example 41 = -69 dBm).

Q x =
Bit Error Rate (in example 0 = 0.2 %)
Q 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
BER 0.2 % 0.4 % 0.8 % 1.6 % 3.2 % 6.4 % 12.8 % 25.6 %

L xx =
Link count
a kind of RadioLinkTimeout counter,
start counter is preset in the parameters of the base station;
if one block can not be decoded, one will be subtracted;
if the next block can be decoded, two will be added up to a maximum
level defined by the base station.
If the counter is zero, the connection will be interrupted
(in dedicated-mode with active SIM in the home-net 24).
(One block are four frames).

T xx =
Timing Advance
Dividing through 2 is distance to the BTS in km.
Or multiplicate the value with 547 m (a little bit more exact).

X xx =
actual TxPwr
actual TxPower in dedicated mode, e.g.:

( X 0 43 dBm 20 W )
( X 1 41 dBm 12 W )
( X 2 39 dBm 8 W )
( X 3 37 dBm 5 W )
( X 4 35 dBm 3.16 W )
X 5 33 dBm 2 W
X 6 31 dBm 1.26 W
X 7 29 dBm 794 mW
X 8 27 dBm 501 mW
X 9 25 dBm 316 mW
X 10 23 dBm 199 mW
X 11 21 dBm 125 mW
X 12 19 dBm 79 mW
X 13 17 dBm 50 mW
X 14 15 dBm 32 mW
X 15 13 dBm 20 mW

S xx =
Signal to Noise Ratio in dB
a kind of S/N-counter
(with good receive-level in home-net 15).

N =
Neighbour channels (BCCHs, see Idle-mode)
scanning up to six neighbour channels
(example s.a.).

B =
as seventh display at "N" the first row from Idle mode (without RxLev):
BCCH : NCC & BCC (= BCCH of the Server Cell).

Other Displays (three lines):

A =
Access
shows the access of the MS or BTS to the organization channels.
Accesses to the RACH and PCH.

P =
Power Measurement

S =
Synchronization

The menupoint "diagnostic":

Point 1, Settings:
has got the chapters

- 1 Diagmode:
ON or OFF (default: OFF)

- 2 PeriodTime:
a time period between 1 and 9 (default: 5).
With this you can change the switching period between standard- and
diagnostic-screen.
A number under three turns permanently on the diagnostic-screen.

Caution, after this you have to turn off BLIND the diagnostic-function !!!
And this counter determines the time of showing/scrolling the
neighbour channels in the Layer1Info and the display-actualisation-time.

- 3 Errlog clr:
choosing this clears the Errlog-memory.

- 4 Errlog lev:
choosing the Errlog-level.
These points (-3 and -4) have no effect for the user.

- 6 AutoInter:
ON or OFF (Auto Interogate, default: ON)
Without function, works only with external PC-Program.

Point 2, Layer1Info
is identical with IDLE- and DEDICATED-screen
(turn on from main-menu with menu, up, ok, 2 after activating the diagnostic-function)

Point 4, GenInfo
shows information of the phone

actual display for Teleport TP 9082:

FW 8200404/16_0:

FFFFFFFFFFFF
DSP 00613000

PCB Versions
188224004004
188231002002

Point 5, IMEI
shows the serial number of the phone (IMEI)
