How do I optimize receiving signal e.g. in my holiday real-estate ?

General informations about antennas

I try to describe an opinion to increase GSM-signal-receiving on this way, because many
people have questions about this:
Sorry, but this english version is much shorter than the german one. Try to translate it yourself ;-)

At first:
GSM connections are controlled connections, not uncontrolled like that from radio-amateurs.
So more power ist mostly not recommended because Base-Stations (BS) mostly do not allow
this. Max. power of the MS in Germany is mostly about 2 to 5 watts. So you only need to
extra-buy a phone with a max. signal-power of 8 watts (e.g. an AEG portable) if the external
antenna does not do it, because portables often pull out better the power to the antenna.
A good anntenna is always the better way (or a combination of both) !

Howto:
Nothing is better than a good antenna. Therefore you have different opinions to solve this problem:

Put a normal car-antenna base-mount (e.g. the Allgon Base-1123) on a 0.5-1 qm metal-plate
to increase the received signal with a 3 or 6 dB antenna. This metal-plate you can lay down
now on you flat-roof.
An alternative is a ground-plane base-mount. Here you do not need the metal-plate,
but you have to mount it on a mast.

These are round-beam-antennas. They do not prefer any receiving-direction. You shall prefer
this if it increases the signal enough to get enough alternative signals from other BS.

Advantage: favourable and universal.

The other way: use a YAGI-antenna. This is a mast-antenna. You align it to the Base-station.
YAGIs are directional aerials and icrease the received signal in a range from 9 to 15 dB !
An alternative with another form is a PLANAR-antenna.

Advantage: highest possible gain of the received signal.

How to connect these antennas:
Use as a minimum RG 58 cable with the right length. Crimp the correct connectors to it.
Use - if possible - no adaptor. Adaptors decrease the signal.

Allgon as a manufacturer is only an example. They are good, and I can read there catalogue
next to me ;-) There are much more manufacturer, try to find them out yourself
(e.g. on my GSM-link-collection). I can not help you in this way.
Questions about this will be ignored !
